Google Ads — Google's advertising platform

Google's platform for running paid ads on Search, YouTube, Maps and partner websites.

What it means

Google Ads is Google's platform for paid advertising. Your ads can appear on Google Search, YouTube, Google Maps, Gmail and partner websites and apps. Unlike SEO, where you earn organic traffic over time, Google Ads lets you pay to reach the right people almost immediately. It is a leading form of pay-per-click (PPC) advertising.

How it works

You create a campaign and pick a type based on your goal:

  • Search: text ads shown when people search your keywords.
  • Display: image ads on partner websites and apps.
  • Video: ads on YouTube.
  • Shopping: product ads with image and price, powered by Google Merchant Center.
  • Performance Max: one automated campaign across Google's channels.
  • Demand Gen: visual ads on YouTube, Discover and Gmail.

Each time an ad could show, Google runs a quick auction, weighing your bid, the relevance and quality of your ad and landing page, and other factors. In most Search campaigns you pay per click. Some campaigns charge per view or per thousand impressions instead. A daily budget keeps your spending in control.

A simple example

A saree shop in Surat wants festive-season orders. The owner runs a Search campaign for keywords like "Banarasi silk saree online" with a hypothetical budget of ₹1,000 a day, sending clicks to a matching landing page. With GA4 linked and conversion tracking set up, the owner sees which keywords bring orders, not just clicks.

Why it matters

Google Ads reaches people at the exact moment they search for what you sell. It is measurable and easy to scale, and Google Ads skills are in demand across Indian agencies and brands.
