Content repurposing — Turning one piece into many
Turning one piece of content into several formats for different platforms.
What it means
Content repurposing means taking one piece of content you have already made and turning it into several new pieces in different formats. A single webinar, for example, can become a blog post, short videos, a carousel, an email and a set of quotes for social media. You do the main thinking once and then get much more value from it.
How it works
Start with a "big" piece full of useful ideas, such as a long video, podcast episode or detailed blog post. Pick out key points, strong quotes, quick tips and stories, and shape each one for a particular platform.
The important word is adapt, not copy. A YouTube video needs a different style from an Instagram Reel, and a LinkedIn post reads differently from a WhatsApp broadcast. Change the length, opening line and call to action for each channel, and spread the pieces across your content calendar.
A simple example
A Pune café owner records a 20-minute YouTube video on "How We Make Our Cold Brew". From it, the team creates three short Reels showing different steps, a carousel post listing five cold brew tips, a blog post with the full recipe, and a short newsletter story about why they started brewing it. One recording session gives them content for roughly a month.
Why it matters
Creating fresh content every day is tiring and expensive for small businesses. Repurposing saves time, puts you on more platforms and repeats your key messages so people remember them. You also reach people who prefer other formats and would never have watched the original.
Beginner tips
- Begin with your best-performing content; it has already shown that people like it.
- Rewrite the hook and caption for each platform instead of pasting the same text.
- Keep a simple list of every format each big piece has been turned into.
- Common mistake: posting the exact same video and caption everywhere, including watermarks from other apps.
